The US 285 Corridor Improvements project involved the comprehensive study, design, and construction of a 22-mile stretch from the New Mexico-Texas state line through Loving, New Mexico, aiming to enhance safety and traffic flow in a high-volume oil-producing region. Faced with deteriorating infrastructure and increasing truck traffic, Molzen Corbin expanded the two-lane roadway by adding dedicated passing lanes and four-lane segments. The team overcame major challenges, including a karst landscape riddled with sinkholes, complex drainage issues, and the project’s large scope. They used advanced technologies like InSAR to identify 72 sinkholes and implemented tailored mitigation strategies. Drainage improvements included scour protection for key bridges, and strategic phasing helped NMDOT save over $1 million. Molzen Corbin also played a key role in securing a $12.5 million BUILD Grant. The project, completed to the highest standards, significantly improves regional safety, access, and quality of life.
