The Anthony Water and Sanitation District (AWSD) Wastewater Treatment Facility underwent a major upgrade, replacing a failing plant with a modern, efficient system after years of Clean Water Act violations. Designed by Molzen Corbin, the new parallel treatment facility—featuring a 1.3 MGD capacity—allows seamless flow transfers and rehabilitation of the old plant, ensuring service through 2040. Innovations like an Elevated Entrance Works system balanced flows without adding costly lift stations, while advanced tools like Plant 3D and SCADA-integrated DO sensors improved design speed, staff engagement, and energy efficiency. Despite regulatory and environmental challenges, the project was delivered on time and under budget thanks to real-time collaboration and strategic funding, significantly benefiting public health in a low-income area and enhancing water quality downstream in El Paso.
