The original interchange was constructed over 40 years ago, and at that time, was located in a rural part of Santa Fe County. The NMDOT selected this design for its ability to accommodate future traffic growth within this developing area of Santa Fe.

This $2.3-million project was designed on an accelerated timeframe to capture AIP funding. Funding was secured in 2008 and construction was completed in the Fall of 2009. The primary objective of an aircraft rescue and firefighting (RFF) service is to save lives by minimizing the effects of an aircraft accident or incident.
